About us

The Social work services aim to provide assistance to individuals, families or groups of patients and elderly to promote their well-being and to satisfy their needs and to help them adjust to any problems resulting from illness, with particular attention to vulnerable entities.

Scope of services

The Social Worker strives to apply a methodological comprehensive intervention to reach out to patients in need, and to assist them and their families in psychosocial, emotional and financial needs. He/She works with the healthcare team in the inpatient units, ER department, and outpatient clinics to deliver the services needed. The social worker listens, supports, advises and directs people based on their needs. He/she provides counseling based on accurate data, situation analysis and evaluation of intervention. The social worker can also intervene at a more collective level, as part of what is now called the ISIC (Social Intervention Collective Interest)

Types of Social Services provided:
  • Providing social guidance and counseling to patients within the institution whether through referral or by directly visiting patients through daily rounds.
  • Counseling to help patients and families develop their strengths and activating resources to help solve their issues no matter what kind.
  • Coordinating with involved ministries and institutions to secure aid for patients and to provide Health Insurance Cards for patients.
  • Following up on chronic patients by tracking their files and providing aid and working to find solutions to outstanding issues
  • Providing awareness campaigns for prevention of diseases, accidents and other social issues.
  • Working as part of an interdisciplinary team to follow-up on patients’ admissions and in-patient stay throughout discharge.
  • Working as a link between patients and associations or institutions to provide financial assistance on medical bills and to investigate the problems patients are suffering.
  • Referring patients to other organizations and programs that would better serve them in solving their challenges or issues.

Financial services
  • Providing Financial Aid to help with patient’s bills
  • Advocating for vulnerable patients who need financial aid based on their socio-economic situation

Social Assistance
  • Assisting and empowering individuals to help them overcome their problems
  • Providing psychosocial support to patients and their families
  • Performing a social assessment on patients to help locate resources for patients who need it most.
  • Organizing seminars to educate patients and their families
  • Implementing recreational activities for patients and elderly in the Elderly Care Center
  • Intervening when needed and advocating for patient in crisis
  • Working as a link between elderly and their families
  • Networking with associations to provide donations for elderly (medications – first needs – diapers)
  • Coordinating with healthcare team to perform evaluation on the monthly elderly needs in the Elderly Care Center

Orientation to social work (trainees)
  • Training Social Worker students from Lebanese University and other universities
  • Orientation sessions about social work to the healthcare team and administrative hospital employees.


Patients Rights

  • Every patient has the right to obtain the highest possible level of health care without delay, and in all cases without discrimination in religion, race or gender, and respect for his dignity and personal, religious and cultural beliefs and freedom to exercise it is taken into consideration. Every patient or a member of his family appointed by him or his legal representative has the right to obtain the information clearly necessary for his health condition.
  • Every patient has the right to choose his or her attending physician Every patient or a member of his family appointed by him or his legal representative has the right to obtain a copy of the medical files and records related to his health condition (laboratory examinations, X-ray reports) and to obtain detailed and accurate medical reports through his attending physician and for one time for a single hospitalization
  • Every patient has the right to refuse health care and leave the hospital within the limits of the law and on his own responsibility, after signing a special pledge and after explaining to him the consequences of this refusal
  • Every patient has the right to inform him and give him advice about the intention of a person or institution to conduct research that may affect his health care and has the right to agree to or refuse to participate in this research
  • Every patient has the right to review the hospital administration with everything related to his stay in it
  • Every patient has the right to file a complaint with the competent authorities regarding the health care he received

The hospital should respect the patient – or whoever designates him through:

  • Total secrecy – even after death – of all information related to his health status, medical condition, diagnosis, future expectations of the disease and treatment, and any other information of a personal nature
  • The disclosure of this confidential information only upon the patient’s explicit consent and in a manner that does not violate the laws in force and the Medical Ethics Act
  • It is considered as approval to exchange information between hospital institutions to participate in providing appropriate treatment to patient

Patient Duties

  • Preserving his health and refraining from any activity harmful to health (smoking, alcohol).
  • Adherence to the instructions of the doctor and the nursing staff in a way that serves his health and adherence to the health care requirements that he has agreed upon
  • Every patient, family members, companions and visitors must adhere to the following recommendations:
    • Preserving the health and rights of other patients
    • Respect the dignity of other patients
  • Respect the medical, nursing and administrative team, and adhere to their instructions within the laws in force in the hospital
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the places in which they are located
  • Refrain from smoking inside the institution’s campus, especially in the corridors and waiting rooms
  • Avoid making noise while visiting the patient
  • Visiting the patient in small numbers and during the specified visit times
  • Not to accompany children under the age of twelve to the hospital for fear of transmitting any infection to them and to preserve their safety
  • Refrain from bringing food and drinks into patient rooms and corridors

Patients Rights

  • Each patient has the right to the highest possible level of medical care without delay and, in all cases, without distinction of religion, race or gender taking into account the respect for his dignity, and the freedom to practice his personal, religious and cultural beliefs
  • Each patient or a family member designated by him or his legal representative the right to obtain clear and necessary information about his health condition
  • Each patient has the right to choose his own doctor
  • Each patient or a family member designated by him or his legal representative has the right to obtain a copy of his medical records (laboratory and radiology reports) and other detailed medical reports through his doctor, one-time for each hospitalization
  • Each patient has the right to refuse health care proposed and leave the hospital within the law and on his own responsibility, following the explanation of his doctor of the consequences of this rejection, and by signing a special consent form
  • Each patient has the right to be informed and given advice on the intent of a person or institution to do research that may affect his health care and has the right to approve or refuse to participate in this research
  • Each patient has the right to check with the administration in regard to his hospital stay
  • Each patient has the right to present complain to the concerned authorities in regard to the health care received

The hospital must respect the patient – or his assigned through:

  • Total confidentiality – even after death – for all information concerning his medical condition, diagnosis, future condition, treatment and any other information of a personal matter
  • Disclosure of confidential information based on the explicit consent of the patient and in accordance to the applicable laws and to the Medical Ethics
  •  The exchange of information is consensual between medical institutions to provide the adequate treatment of the patient.

Responsibilities:

Each patient has:
  • To protect his health and to refrain from any activity that might be harmful to his health (smoking, alcohol)
  •  To follow the medical and nursing instructions for the benefit of his health and to comply with the health care requirements approved upon
  •  Each patient, his family, his companions and visitors must complywith the following recommendations:
    • Respecting of the medical, nursing and administrative team and complying with hospital rules and regulations
    • keeping the places they are in clean
    • Refraining from smoking inside the premises of the Establishment
    • Refraining from noise when visiting a patient
    • Visiting patient in small numbers and as per scheduled visiting hours
    • Not bringing children under the age of twelve to the hospital for their own safety
    • Refraining from bringing food and beverages to the patient rooms and corridors

Services

  • Receiving vouchers from the billing department.
  • Sending the vouchers to the guarantors after reconciliation is done.
  • Collecting the payments from guarantors and other parties.
  • Closing the payments by journal entries // Liquidation of all payments.
  • Reviewing the aged debts and claims for it.
  • Dealing with different kinds of accounts such as:
    • Elderly Care Center account
    • A/R (account receivables)
    • N/R (note receivables)
    • Main & public Guarantors
    • Insurance companies,
    • Associations & individuals
    • Other private accounts,
    • NSSF account (medicine)

About us

The patient’s medical record is the most important document in the hospital, it is a legal document. The information contained in the medical record allows health care providers to provide continuity of care to individual patients. The medical record serves as a basis for planning patient care, documenting communication between the health care provider and any other health professional contributing to the patient′s care. In addition, the medical record may serve as a document to:

  • educate medical students/ resident physicians
  • provide data for internal hospital auditing and quality assurance
  • provide data for medical research

Mission:

  • Maintain all hospital records in a safe, secure, confidential environment
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and complete medical record on every patient who was admitted and discharged from the hospital, who was treated in the Emergency Department or ambulatory care units or received any service from AWMV
  • Support decision-making and financial reimbursement, depending directly on the information contained in the Medical Record.
  • Supervise all medical files and ensures its accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work as per established policies and procedures
  • Plan, develop, and supervise the implementation and maintenance of medical records systems and participates in developing policies and procedures on confidentiality, patient registration, medical record content, documentation issues, and others related to accreditation standards and ISO requirements

Services:

  • Providing medical record to inpatient, OPD and ER departments when requested
  • Providing patient, or any authorized person on his/her behalf, a copy of his medical file upon the approval of the concerned attending physician

Paperless strategy

The medical files have begun to be computerized since 1999, and currently is fully computerized (all medical and nursing notes, consultations, orders, progress notes, laboratory, pathology and radiology reports, discharge summary, physiotherapy notes, dietitian notes, medications requests … ). The electronic medical file provides the ability to rapidly find, retrieve, and share documents between healthcare providers. A clear policy supported by all needed documents related to information system downtime are set to ensure continuity of medical care and smooth operational process.

The “Quality Assurance for Medical File Committee” is responsible for:

  • Setting clear procedures for the management of medical files
  • Improving the documentation in the medical record through regular data collection and analysis
  • Making sure that all forms are filled properly in the medical records
  • Approving all forms to be used in the medical records
  • Reviewing the quality indicator(s) related to medical records and suggesting improvement plan (corrective and preventive actions)

How to request your medical records?

According to the Lebanese law, the patient has the right to obtain a copy of his/her medical file based on his/her request and the approval of the concerned attending physician.

Confidentiality of information is our priority. A copy of the requested medical records is delivered only to the patient or his/her next of kin upon the authorized approval of the patient. The patient is requested to fill in the form “MC-FO-07 إطلاع المريض على ملفه الطبـي” available in all nursing units along with his/her identification card.

The patient can authorize another person to obtain a copy of his/her medical record by filling out and signing the form “MC-FO-07 إطلاع المريض على ملفه الطبـي, and attaching a clear written authorization for the assigned person with a copy of the identification cards for both the patient and the assigned person. During specific situations, a copy of the medical file is given upon the approval of the Medical Director.
